I think I got a little ahead of myself. I forgot how early it was and I started my pumpkin seeds and now they are ready to go outside. But the patch isn't ready. What should I do...throw away all the plants and start over or keep them?

Depends on when you want it weighed. If you want to enter an early October weighoff then I would pitch them and start over in a few weeks. If you weighoff is early or you don't even care about a weighoff then you may be able to keep them.

I've heard these plants get pot bound in a hurry. I always put mine out right after they unfurl their seed leaves. I'm sure you could keep them in a pot longer than that but I don't know how long.

Theoretically, you could grow them on in ever larger containers until the threat of frost is past. I would keep them hungry, thirsty & lean so they don't get too big. But even then. 4 weeks is a long time.

Do you have more of the same "chosen" seeds? If so, have fun with these until they kick. Then start new ones about 4 weeks from now.

bocky.........are you past the last frost date or can you protect them? Above you said, "but the patch isn't ready". Your Franklyn County Fair is early in the year. Maybe you could be a winner with a hugh early fruit, at the fair. Your October 4th. Weigh In is at Sam's Club in Altoona, Pa.
