I followed a link from the mail list somewhere and they offer seeds that grow blue pumpkins. Anyone heard of this? Is it a pumpkin or a squash you think? They didn't have a picture of the end result.

I have eaten one this winter. It was called Blue Hubbard and looked like it was painted in blue color. It had also extreemly thik and hard skin (i needed a saw to open it).

have couple of seeds if someone needs. (was about 25 lb)

hi. i'm not sure if this is exactly what you are talking about; but my boyfriend grew it last year and called it a blue pumpkin. i posted the pic in the gallery. there is a pic of our cat, a squash, the blue pumpkin, a weird peach colored pumpkin (i forget what he called that one) and a regular carved atlantic giant (not very giant though!). sorry if this isnt what you were talking about..but this is a blue pumpkin and very odd!

Bob Matthews gave out some blue pumpkin seeds last year. They are not blue Hubbard squash(which are good eating Winter squash, but shaped more like a giant pear). I ended up growing one of Bob's seeds last year, it was small, pumpkin shaped, and bluish-green.

I grew a few last year that basebell7 has in the pic. Seeds were from Johnneys Selected Seeds. They called them the Jarrahdale.

Amazing. Sent you an e-mail Southern, I'd appreciate a freebie. I'm still getting my archive going, so my ability to offer much back is limited, full credit in my diary for the seed at the least. thanks.

btw we tried planting 7 luminas (white) but none of them even set. fair number of flowers of both sexes, tiny plant! never did anything. I'm very suspicious of store bought seeds these days...

Well, it seems I just never think to use the search tool before I post! looks like in addition to the fine pic baseball posted, this question has made the rounds a couple of times.

On the flip side, if we all used the search tool correctly, nothing would probably get asked again; be mighty quite around here.

Bantam, How'd yours turn out? any size, are the actually squash?

yeah the pumpkin (or squash if you prefer) in basebell's picture is what Johnny'seeds calls "Jarrahdale" i have a lot of seeds if anyone is interested but they were open pollinated and could have been crossed with the Cinderella plants in my patch. So if anyone is really unlucky they might end up with purple pumpkins. which would be cool but probably very unlikely. if you want seeds just let me know.

The Jarrahdale is listed as a C. Maxima. So it will cross with the Atlantic Giants or anything else C. Maxima.
Was not able to grow too many last year. Did get one to about 15 lbs though.

Luminas are hard to grow. I have been able to get the plants to vine but not set fruit. This year will be my last year to try them if they do not set fruit....Tom

yeahn and Weeks Seed Company advertises a 1,100 pumpkin on the back of their packs, but the biggest I could get to finish was about 47# out of 20 plants. 15% OM, fertilized often, watered liberally, hand pollinated.
