Who thinks growing the 580 Weir and 1260.4 Weir then cross pollinating them is a good idea???

I did the same type of thing a few years back with the 916 LaRue and 769 Mettler. Parents of both were 567.5 Mombert and 697 Ciliberto, just reverses of the same cross. I think it helps to bring all the genetic traits possible together in a seed line. I can't say it works this way in plants, but in animals some traits can only be passed on maternally. I expect plants aren't too different this way but I haven't studied up on in enough. I think if you really want to offspring to have all the traits possible from both parents they need to be combined this way. Again this is just an intuitive thing on my part and not science at all. If someone who knows more of the genetics can add to this I'd like to learn more.

Thanks for the insight, Tiller your thinking is along the same lines as mine. I will grow bolth and cross pollinate them, then next season grow their offspring and self them. The following year I will grow another 580 (I only have one 1260.) and cross him into her. It all sounds great on paper, but I still have to get the seeds to germinate, and then take them to full term!
