Since we have such a large number of people planning to grow this seed in the contest, why not also use this opportunity to do some research on pumpkin growth? There is the potential to collect some real good hard numbers here, and put them to use. Here's what im asking- if you grow this seed, keep a log book on fruit growth. Record at least the circumference (ott is better) on 5 day intervals. Also note shape, and any other pertinent observations. And the end of the season, send this mess of data to me and I'll make it pretty and presentable. Since I know you all love incentives and seeds, I'll spice up the deal and offer a couple seeds from my biggest fruit to everyone who submits data. This makes everyone in the contest a winner (sorta). Obviously, this contest/experiment is a "weighs" off, so i will post a reminder around the beginning of July to start keeping track.

Great idea! Im glad to see someone else interested in what we all could learn from this! I had planed on gatehering data on this but would love to pass it on to a more knowledgable and experienced grower than I. I'll try to e-mail you soon with some of my Ideas and well see what we come up with. Mike

Joze & Mike,

I have an EXCEL based grower log. I've modified it to include a degree day calculator. It includes areas where I intend to record my input of chemicals, fertilizer, irrigation, weather, etc. There is also a growth record column.
I'm not suggesting everyone should use it. But for your own sanity, it might be wise to create a (simplified) similar standardized format for all 840 growers to use.

Just a thought.

Steve

Excellent oppurtunity for a controlled experiment with some variables being the same. Great Idea Joe. David
