Which two would it be????
1) 1230 Daletas (705 Stelts x 846 Calai) 2) 1064.5 Needham (862.5 Hester x 940 Mombert-98) 3) 995.8 Carter (846 Calai x 859 Mombert) 4) 881 Hampton (940 Momber-98 x 935 Lloyd) 5) 845 Nesbitt (846 Calai x 723 Bobier) 6) 748.8 Ruff (833.8 Ruff x self) 7) 735 Pukos (846 Calai x self) 8) 582 Hester (940 Mombert-98 x 1026 Holland)
and why????

All are excellant seed! All have good genetics!! If you have good fertile soil augmented with manure, I'd say that you have a 70% chance at 600 lbs. with ANY of those seeds. A 40% chance at 700 lbs. and a 20% chance at 800 lbs. Now my friend Geneva Emmons could probably hit 900 lbs. with any of them.....the grower does make a difference!:>)

I'll grow the 845 Nesbitt and the 582 Hester. Please send them to me asap;)
I know the genetics geeks will tell me I don't know what I'm talking about but I like the cross you would get....it's east coast meets west coast. I guess I'm partial to a cross that is not terribly inbred but still have all the names you're looking for.

Oops, forgot the why....with only those listed seed as choices, I would plan for the long haul. I'd rather the resulting cross seed be more inclined towards a specific line, something you can really use. I would think the cross would be more functional for use if you're thinking of hybrid vigor with crosses in the future. Both plants grew a 1000+ already so you can't go wrong with either as the female. But pollinating with each other further reinforces, if that's the right way to put it, the Calai traits. To me that's going to produce a more desirable seed for the next generation. But that's just me, I'll sacrifice size for quality genetics that can be used down the road. Not that the plant won't potentially give you a big one anyway. It's a win-win cross as I see it.

Id go with the Ruff because its an IOWA seed and it grew a 1056.5. You can see pics of the 1056 being droped ontop a truck in my diary.

Adam, All these growers have proved my point.....different growers see the "strong points" in each of these excellant seeds. It's unfortunate that you do not have enough room to grow them all! :>)

What a bunch of seeds man! I am with Ben: 1230 and 582, huge offspring and beauty shape and color as well. But you know he is young and I am a newbie, then, better don't take notice on our opinion, plant other ones and send these ones to us, if you don't mind. We will send a bubble to you with pleasure. Don,

1230 and 881. The 1230 throws excellent shape and decent color, along with decent weight. the 881 is just a hunch, as it did throw a 1000 lber over in the northeast there. Third choice is the 582 hester....it grew something huge in new Hampshire, so why not in vermont eh????
case
Ps...crossing the 881 and 582 would be interesting as both seeds have closely related family trees.

I would have to say 1230 Daletas and 735 pukos, I just love the genetics and the way the offspring have looked, I also like the 735 Pukos because of the 846 Calai x self, it did well in one scenario and I think it can go large again, I also like the 1064.5 Needham, which I myself am growing because of how heavy it has gone and that it is more proven because it was grown in 00, but I think no matter what you grow, you will do extremely well...... Come on Adam, how's the teeter-totter leaning? Or have you bought a farm so you can plant them all?

Probably the 1230 and the 582, that was just my first "gut instinct". There's a lot of time 'till planting so I'm sure I'd change my mind once or twice. I'd think about trying to talk my wife out of growing flowers one year so I could use the space to plant that 995 Carter.

Stan: I've actually got plenty of room to grow plants I just don't want to overwhelm myself. Last season I grew 6 plants and that was a little to much. I've decided to go with 4 this year and have already decided on the 845 Bobier and 1236 Eaton. Of the list I posted, right now it looks like I'm gonna add the 1230 Daletas and 995 Carter. I'll start the 735 Pukos as a back-up. If all 5 germinate I'll probably end up planting them all......
