OK, first off. If you are using a 845 sibb and a 845 self, they are totally 2 different seeds. You would then be crossing them, not sibbing them. Now if you use 2 845 sibbed seeds that came out of the same fruit and crossed the 2 plants, then you would have sibbed them. Does that make sense?

Hey Rick, listen to an unexperience intutive genetic player...
Ready?, well: sibb the sibb 845 with the sibb 845, you will have a sibb sibb 845, BUT..., do it early in the morning of July 5th, you will grow a nice pumpkin, but over all, you'll get THE SEED!

I would sibb the 845 selfs and sibb the 845sibbs one on each plant if your going for the seeds then why not self the 845 sibbs and self the 845 selfs ok so here we go the 845 sibbs b1 and b2 and the 845 self f1 and f2 so we sibb f1 X f2 and b1 X b2 well might as well sibb f2 X f1 and the b2 X b1 for your best seeds and we dont even want to go into all the selfing that could take place

I would cross back the genuine 845 with the 865 Mettler, if you have it, or made a sister cross with the 1025 Bobier, and... sib the sibs!

I would look at more than just the fact that you have a couple of 845 sibbs and 845 selfs. What was the shape/color of the pumpkins they came from? What was the final weight of the pumpkins they came from? Where were they grown on the plant? Were they over the estimates or under the estimates and by how much? Did they grow problem free or did they have trouble with dill rings, splits, ect...

Once you've looked at all of this, try to make crosses that will promote the best qualities of each pumpkin. After all, who cares what the genetics are if the pumpkin is just going to crack or blow up!

Sometimes a cross is good, the 723, and the same cross one year later is also good, 845. Other times you repeat the cross and it doesn't produce any remarkable offspring.
You cross two nice hot seeds, and you get a nice seed, or you don't; you cross one hot seed with a normal one, and the same; you cross two normal ones, and the same.
Which is the best way to make a promising cross?..........hummmm
The only thing I found always present in all this process is the luck.
