US Army National Guard, 278th Armored Cavalry Division in Tennessee. We're on alert, expected to be mobilized by the end of January. Any other military here? What's your status?

Not myself, but many males in the family dating back to the revolution.
God Speed your safe return Southern. We all owe our military the highest level of regard. You are the ones who make these perhaps (dare I say) trivial pursuits all possible. Thank You.

Hey NY, I bet he's going to the Mojave Desert for training? Spent nearly 6 weeks there this summer, combat training, just loads of fun. And I'm not gone anywhere yet....it's the regular active duty guys and gals that pull the load.

My kid brothers` a lifer in the army for 15 years or so. stationed in Germany for the last 10.spoke with a little while back. He said he wasn`t able to discuss facts but he said "All I will tell ya is we just finished painting all our STUFF desert tan cammy colors, and were told to "make ready" everything NOW !". My oldest son is in the army going on 6 years now. He ran a mine sweeper in Bosnia for one year spent 2 years in Germany and another somewhere near Bosnia as a "peace keeper", getting shot at but can`t shoot back. Now he`s stationed in Georgia. He called Christmas day and said he has been told to be prepared to be shipped out imediately. My youngest boy did 5 years in the marines. He was deployed to Yemen a few years back with a group to find arab terrorists` training grounds and camps. He says he isn`t allowed to discuss what went on over there. My oldest brother joined the marines in `67 to see the "sites "in `Nam". My little sister joined the marines to be on their volleyball team and see the world, amd she did. I guess they didn`t want me cause each year they kept giving me really high draft numbers. And so I stayed here and partied for all my friends who left but didn`t come back.Porterville, Calif.had the highest per capita death rate of the Viet Nam war.For a city of 15000 citizens many hundreds died over there. I still remember reading that fact in 1973 LOOK magazine.I still don`t know what that means.

retired first sergeant here southern. in germany everyone is on high alert. the active duty guys may pull the load during peacetime, but it is the reserves and guard that we desparately need to pull off any kind of a mission like what may happen in iraq. my hat goes off to all the the weekend warriors out there.

From any point of view, war is a ugly word, but in Christmas Time, just thinking in it, is even uglier. I know we, the rich people, have to defend our richness from the poor people who don't like we were so rich, but it still being ugly, I think.

Daughter is a Marine Officer, son-in-law, his two brothers and sister are Marine Officers as well. They are all ready to go right now...but....where they don't discuss but all their stuff looks brownish/yellow. My hope is that either the bad guy gets wasted by his own people or if it starts then the lesser bad guys turn on their leader to save their own butts. Either way I hope none of our people get hurt. They've all been in Bosnia,Kuwait,Somolia,Yemen,Afghanistan etc, etc.

I have knowlege of three AF guys in food service with a year and a half to go who are being sent to Kansas to polish ping pong balls. They just got back from the Middle East. I would have thought they would have returned to Germany and be held in readiness there. Go figure?
