Do you use to apply any kind of product, fungicide or anything else, on the vines after terminating or ending secondaries, and on the stems of the fruits you cull during the desire fruit selection? And how far from the vine do you cut on those stems? Thank you in advance for your answers, Don

Don, many growers will use a general fugicide like CAPTAN for putting on any cuts/bruises their plants may have. When cutting pumpkin stem for culling, it's usually so young that where you cut it makes little difference. Dab alittle Captan on stem after cutting.Steve

I only use Captain on stems of the cut fruit (plant side)and try to cut about 1 inch from the vine. all the pinching, and pruning cuts heal very quickly. I did learn the hard way from Jack LaRue that you should either use a seperate knife for each plant or sterilize it in bleach water. I had a disease attack a plant and I cut off that part of the vine, I then used the same knife to prune a plant in a totaly seperate patch and that plant got the same disease. The third plant next to the origionally diseased one remained healthy and produced a 600+ pound pumpkin. Gerry

Brett hester had the same problem gads. Jack told me though you dont need anything where you cut the plant as long as it dries in the air for a day before you bury it.
