I was wondering, I have read that when two dissimilar plants are crossed, it produces hybrid vigor, but also produces often that are sterile, so does this being sterile create low number of seed counts, or what?????

Steve,
Often plants can be tricked into thinking they are compatible, when in fact they are not, and the resulting seeds do not accept the pollen, and thus sterile. This can occur between crosses between subspecies. That is my interpretation of the situation anyway.

Many characteristics are to blame for low seed counts. Vigor sometimes taking the available nutrients away from seed production for fruit or plant production can also be to blame. In atlantic giants, sterility does not happen (at least not for genetic purposes) because as Joe's article says, the genetic variance within the species is not enough to cause such a thing.

Tom, any opinion on my 120 Frantz 02 (est)?
Its my 139.8 Big Max 01' X 922.5 Emmons.

Different subspecies right??????
What should I expect from these seeds, any thoughts or predictions from the genetics expert???!

Thanks, Mike

I think Joe would be better at answering your question. Joe A? Can you help?
