I would like to know what some of the big boys like to do the most. Cross, self or sib pollinate? Some guys say and think that sib and self is alot better then a cross pollination. So can anyone clear this up with me as to what is best and whats the advantages and disadvantages of all three

if you sib or self.you are doubling up on good genes..but you could also double up on bad ones.....if you have a really good selfed or sib fruit...grow it, if next pumpkin is great do it again....if dud...cull....at some point you need to cross to get hybrid vigor back in it....if you cross with another good selfed cross you might end up with a super seed....might....

lobsta, Sibb is a female crossed with a male from a plant of the same "seed batch" as the female. Two seperate plants, same parents, same pumpkin. I try to go with selfed if you want to preserve specific genes, because each seed has a possibility of a different genetic make up even if from the same pumpkin. There are lots of examples of seeds from the same fruit producing different shapes, colors, and weights of pumpkins.
