He has got some nice crosses up. His Dill 15 is a 1061 Pukos X 846 Calai.

No disrespect to Mr. Dill intended but there are enough excellent crosses out there to be obtained through trades and giveaways to negate buying his seed. Yes, he may have a 1061 x 846 cross but why can't any of us come up with the same thing? There are plenty of 1061's, 1061 self's, and 846 selfs out there to do it yourself.
Everybody is looking for the next great cross, why not create it yourself?
Like I said, no direspect intended towards Howard Dill. I just think there is so much seed out there that buying it should become obsolete.
Personally, I'm going to forge my own path. Forget about buying it.

Growers like Marc Sawtelle and Nic Welty are handing the future of giant pumpkin growing to all of us. Only a few seem to be paying attention......I'm paying attention, are you all?

I started my personal little "gene crossing" experiment with a 810 Dill from 99 I have selectivaly crossed it with 1000+ pumpkins all of different linages for three seasons. I will cross it back into the origional offspring this season (410 Gadberry). I have increased the weight of the crosses offspring every year, but have also noticed each sucessive fruit took on some of the characiteristics of the 1000+ male pollinator. One more season in my experiment and I will have my answers. I will then take the offspring from the 810 Dill Mother stock and self, not sib it for the next three seasons. I am not foolish enough to put all my eggs in one basket, I also will grow several of the hot seeds just in case...
