Good to see all those threads pushed off, may we all now go on.......thanks Wayne and David. Back to business of this website. Good news. 845 Bobier plant opened its first male flower this morning!!!!!!! Very excited I am. Means pollination very soon. Also a male opened on the 762 Nueville plant!!! I was up way before the bees to snip them. I want to save as much pollen as I can to make sure I've got pollen for when the first female flower opens. How can I store it and for how long????

I have seen them stored in plastic zip-lock bags in the fridge.

In frozen nitrogen, as long as you want. Ask Lincoln Mettler, he did it.

But do you really think you are going to need such a thing my friend? I read from someone something about 800 leaves prior to set a promising fruit.......Hmmmmmmmmm

Hey Don, just want to cover myself and make sure there is plenty of pollen for the first fruit on the main vine at 12 foot. Don't know about the 800 leaf rule, just know that the biggest pumpkins are grown about 10 foot out on the main vine, although there are exceptions to that rule.

They will easily keep for a couple weeks in zip lock bags in the fridge, just try to get the air out as much as you can..if you have a dessicant kicking around put it in with them to keep the moisture out. I also scraped about a dozen of my males this year and put it in a tupperware container with a dessicant from a bottle of vitamins..stuff kept like new for a month..

Where I come from, what you approved of seeing "those threads pushed off..." is a form of message board abuse.
