What is the history of the 455 Andrews? What kind of genetics does it have? It seems to have been a solid performer.

Hey Smitty, G likes old time seeds...cross is a 722 Holland 92 and 502.5 Ciliberto 91....G promised a greenie but alas I know of none that threw one...Everyone I saw liked the plant. Must have a good storage technique!

It throws a very nice healthy plant, with large leaves and thick vines. It can go green or orange, but has gone mostly orange....and has thrown two squash?? i know of one squash for sure, the 954 uow pistono 01. The fruit grow very fast....usually low, longer fruit. Its 50/50 on weight...can go eitehr way. The 455 tends to have a higher chance of splitting its fruit over 700 lbs as well. Still a nice grower. Case

Smitty great seed worth growing there where 2 out of the 25 or so planted that where squash. Aggc has the biggest fruit grown at 954* smallest 500 some thing. The seed is very aggressive in all ways one of the best seeds i've ever grown. Mine have split but I am a very aggresive grower. I have the mentality all or nothing. so is it the seed don't think so this year i grew the 455 2 plants one plant 600sq feet had a est 786.7 -579.5 went 12% heavey and a 300 plus pound fruit on one plant. The other plant I had a fruit split at around 660 at kept it together for two more weeks to mature the seeds uow 816. would I recomend this seed yes I feel it is as good as the 801 stelts. Same cross as the 697 cilberto which grew the 1006 greer. In the future its of spring will be some of the most sought after seeds like the 801 is to the 846 like the 935 is to the 845 b. best of luck in 2003

I will be posting a summary of what the 455 did this year, an honest appraisal (I hope..lol)of what I've seen following the germination and subsequent events revolving around the growing of about 30 plants from the 455 seed. Its amazing the mortality rate when it comes to growing any A.G. Its not evey year when a grower can track the progress of 30 different attempts at the same seed....an event that warrants a summary. I will be contacting a few of the growers with some questions if you dont mind. Every grower I can contact via email will get a summary themselves complete with pictures of all the fruit to draw thier own conclusions...it was a fun experiment, Thanks Mark for starting the contest....with the summary Mark...you'll be on the hot seat to make the call on the winner...lol.....but I think we're all winners if we walk away with a better understanding of the variableness of cross......G

The 455 is a very interesting seed. It is the same cross as the 697 Ciliberto, now to look at the 697. The 697 grew the 1006 greer. The seeds from some of the offspring of the 697 have been some very top seeds. Quite a few of todays top seeds have the 697 somewhere in their background. Like the 875, 815, and some very large pumpkins. Like mark said the 455 and it's offspring have the potential to be some very good seeds. It will be very interesting to see in years to come. Ben
