I have accumilitated little bark from an oak tree I have been sawing up..My question is this,,,would the bark break down quicker than wood chips if tilled in??And if so,,would it be beneficial to my patch?? Thanks Guys/Gals for all imput... Jeff

before i put either wood chips or bark in my patch i would put them in a pile and let them rot down then put the composted material in the patch oak trees are very high in tannic acid that could hurt plant growth and would more than likely lower your ph depending on how much material you added

randy is right, you need a lot of nitrogen to break that stuff down, so go ahead and compost it seperately from the garden until it is ready to mix in. as far as bark vs. wood chips, it's a surface area to volume problem. whichever is a finer consistencey should be ready faster.

Mix them with manure and wait......... several years. No, is only one tree, better I would use it to mulch something in my garden.

Throw in some blood meal with the shavings, organic is best...
