You know, I guess that TRUST is the word with dealing with just about any seeds. There are probably a few folks out there who would send you off seeds from a different plant. And as to the why, I guess that they would feel that they had their reasons. So I guess that you either have to actually be there when they hand pollinate, weigh, and finally cut open the pumpkin to get the seeds, or it's all just a matter of TRUST. Or something like that...

I obtain most of my seeds from the grower directly, or the BigP seed giveaway. 99.9% of the growers in this hobby are all based on friendship and trust. As with everything else in life, there's always one or two who want to profit, or try to destroy this trust. Eventually, as in the past, things catch back up with them. Avoid trading with a stranger, and you'll avoid the possibility of getting ripped off!

What goes around comes around!!!! I'd shoot anyonebody gladly that ever sent out a false seed. Michel in Germany with a 270 Weatherby Magnum...
God sees everything we do......just stick with the known growers and you'll be fine. If you strike a deal that doesn't seem realistic then chances are you're being had. Demand proof of where the seed came from and then contact that source before making any deal.

Ben,
I have consulted with an agronomist in relation to your query. His comments were: 1 The problem is most probably pumping soil, with high suspended solids in the water. 2 He might consider adjusting the pump suction height or finding an alternate source of water. 3 There is the potential to harm the pumpkin through suffocation. To be sure of the problem, he might want to consider a Nutrient Advantage Water Analysis thru an Incitec dealer.
Hope this helps,
Johnno

Nothing wrong with TRUST. It might even be a good thing...
