Really watch out who you are trading with, I got sent false seeds..... it really sucks to think you have some real good seeds, and then lose them, trust me..... As for being on Bigpumpkins.com now.. well I think I may have to step aside and leave for a little while, not because of you guys, but because of one person
.. thanks for everything guys.... Steve

Once again, a very naive question. How do you know if you have false seeds? Some size and colors vary somewhat, but for the most part, they all look the same to me.

Put's a real damper on seed trading, I have had to reject several promising trades due to the deception of a very, very corrupt few. It's tough authenticating true seeds. Very sad indeed........

Steve,

As a public service to everyone else who uses this site, I think it is only right to expose this fraudulant trader! Maybe the rest of us could learn from your mistakes!

Hang 'em!

Was it done intentionally? Guys..I don't think we ought to being calling anybody a fraud until all the facts are knowned here.

It could avoid alot of hurt feelings.

Who knows? Maybe the person was scammed himself and thought he had legit seeds but learned different at a later time.

just my opinion..

If you got a crank call, would you have your phone disconnected?

If you received junk mail would you insist that the USPS not deliver mail anymore?

Absurd right?

So why would you leave BP.com because of something one person did?

What does one thing have to do with another?

This seems to come up time and time again. People are burned one way or another and they decide to leave the "community". Someone please explain this to me...

I don't understand it either. I've eaten a rotten apple, but it doesn't mean I'll never eat an apple again. And I'd have to say that for the most part, this website is a darn good orchard!

steve i would not worry to much about it,the kid is only 11 years old,he is just learning the seeds, may be there was just a mis under standing about the seed trade,i think the young man will grow up to be a great grower,we all know he has the best teacher, and i have seen many of his post for trading seed,so dont be to hard on him,i look forward to see the great pumpkins he will grow,he is just a young man trying to learn a great sport,we all make mistakes.

Steve I don't want you to leave the site it to bad that you got burnt. It happens some times but like I have always said make sure you know who you are trading with ask how he or she came to have the seed.

I am still trying to figure out what a "false" seed is....hmmmm... Can anyone tell me?
I saved pumpkin seed from my 190 pound pumpkin that I grew a year ago. I also saved squash seed and I tried to make sure to keep the seedlings I started from these seeds separate. I had too many plants and gave some supposed "Atlantic Giant" plants to a friend. You guessed it...one grew squash!...and a nice normal size one at that...right smack dab in the middle of her pumpkin patch.( She laughed about it.) I also ended up with a pumpkin plant in my squash bed. ooops....

desert storm...it's like taking your 190 seeds and calling them a (723 or 712)..and trading them to another grower and
recieveing the real deal

I can see being ticked off when you find out you have been dealt a fake seed. But why leave a place where you can get more info and help to someday grow that dream of a world record pumpkin. Heck after this year i realized it might take me 4 or 5 years just to get to 400 or even a 500lbs. But i 'm a patient person I'll keep at it and i will get to my goal. All i can say as everyone here has said if a deal is too good to be true, you may or should back away from it.I enjoyed Steves comments here and have learned alot from him.But as Ken has said, just because you tasted 1 bad apple why leave?
