Is 6 hours of sunlight enough for growing a giant pumpkin?

Growth will be very slow inside or out, plant may become sick.

From my experience this year I think you would be better off to grow a pumpkin plant in a total shaded area than where it would recieve 6 hours of sun light.
I tried it in both places just to have some extra male flowers for my main patch if I need them. The plant in total shade grew better than the one that recieve 6 hours sunlight.
It seemed to me that the plant that got 6 hours didn't have time enough to toughen to the sun or something. The time frame of the sunlight was like in the hottest part of the day also so that may have had something to do with it.

Junior, Do you mean, "direct sunlight"? I noticed that you did not put down where you were located. However, on this planet, we usually get about 14 hours of sunlight in the summer.

Most of my patch gets between 6 and 7 hrs of sun (direct) during mid July and August...a little more in May, June, and half of july, less in september. I usually get 1-2 fruits 500-600 lbs on two small 400-450 sq ft plants.

If any of you are wondering I live in DE now. My patch is located next to a sunroom, so it is shaded for a good part of the day. Thanks for the info, and good luck to you all.
