We got snow earlier this week and now it has turned cold. Its -2 F.out side this morning. I suspect the snow will now stay until March or April. The early snow caught me off gaurd. I didn't get my leaves spread (I have 160 bags of leaves siting on my lawn and garden ready to spread). The manure is still stacked in piles around the garden and no tilling was done. No wonder my winter rye didn't make it.

Look at the nice side: frost should kill a lot of soil pathogens

I sort of know the feeling..
It's not got all that cold here yet.. but it has rained like 5 out of 7 for the last 3 weeks. It's about impossible to do anything to the patch.

We got a small storm last night. Had 3 inches in about two hours. Roads where really bad to drive on. Tomorrow where going to get some more nasty weather. Snow, snow and then maybe freezing rain. The snow is coming to quick here. Lots of the trees still have lots of leaves on them

We got the complete opposite here in Australia. Had 2 days at 95F then 105F day, followed by 90F today. My plants really copped a hiding on Sunday. 2 plants took the heat very well, with no wilting at all - 845 Bobier and 762 Nueville. Also we are in the middle of the worst drought in many years here. Hasn't rained at all for months, and the weather people are predicting no rain in the next 3 months. EL NINO!!!!!!!!!!! Send some of that rain over here please....... Ben

Hi Boily. You have to irrigate pretty well to fight against that heat. How many times do you conect the sprinklers on that days and how long? Good luck Don Quijote

Boily, Its the biggest drought in history here in Queensland. I havent set my irrigation up yet and have to handwater my wilting plants everyday. Cant complain though least I have some water left. Irrigation will be up and going this week. The wind is my biggest problem at the moment and cold nights. Anyway talk to you later. Clinton

Its snowing here tonight as well. If we get a few inches more we can take out my Norwegian Fjord pony and our sleigh we bought this summer. It is an antique made between 1883 and 1915. I called the manufacturer (now a car dealership and he told me when they were built) I can't wait! It just might be quite interesting since the pony is just nicely broken and has never even seen a sleigh! LOL "Dashing thru' the snow" lalalalalala

Hey Don - At Jarrad's place the sprinklers are now programmed for 20 mins at 6AM, Also 10 mins at 11AM, 1PM and 8PM.(Per Zone, 2 zones) That will be a lot better than no water for 3 days!!! Its been hard to decide what to do......the plastic enclosures seem to magnify the heat, however it seems everyday we are getting strong wind as well. The plants are still small and I don't want them snapped in half. On Sunday the only plant that was doing OK was the 1061 Pukos. All the rest were wilted, especially the 854 Emmons plant. Hey Clinton, looks like we are in the same boat with the wilting plants. I've been doing a lot of hand watering too. Plus we've both got big winds blowing. What temps you been getting up in Queensland??? Good luck with your 845. Brian, sure you can have 20F, just don't know how I'd get it in a bubblepack...... We had another 90+F day today.... The 845 Bobier is loving it!!! Massive leaves......

Wow Boily sure doesn't sound like spring...Is it always that hot this early! Yikes....what do you do in mid summmer! can you make your wind breaks a little larger so they don't cook the plants or is the additional shading better to stop any leaf burn? looks like only gets direct sun when the sun is directly over the top...Great shots though keep em comin! Oh folks, I don't want to make you jealous, but here we are getting the most wonderful fall you can imagine. Rain every week or every each other, sunny and warm in the middle. You don't need more than a t-shirt; no one can say is hot or cold, days and nights as well. Crops are growing like in late spring, woods are filled with mushrooms. And ... I have sprained my ankle!!! I would like to run on the medows! Couldn't that happen in the middle of the winter. Well, well, I touch wood, once is enough.

Hey Boily. I wonder what heat they get in Darwin! I have prepared my irrigation system for next season to irrigate till 16 times per day. I think I'll need it, because we use to have one week in july and another in auguest with 100 ºF and as low as 18% air humidity. Also will use 4' high 50% shade cloth as windbreak, one fence around each plant. As the plants grow the larger the fences became. In our sandy soil east wind dries more than the sun does.
