I have never read much about adding peat moss to the pumkin patch. I would think it would be a good source of organic matter, maybe a little acidic. Does anyone have an opinion on this?

It may be a little pricey, but add all you can get!

I usually add about 8 cubic ft to a 25x60 foot area every year. This year I added more in a few spots where the vine grew. When pulling the vine up to clean up my patch I notice that the tap roots was about twice as long in the area's where I added more.

I wish to have a full ship to broadcast it like manure, but it is too pricey. You can't use too much..., if you add lime to correct pH.

Iuse peat moss and Potting soil every year. This year I added 10 yards of potting soil to 1200 sq ft of garden. It already has lime in it to make it 7.0 ph. Works for me and Chris Dueck.

I am sure it does, Andrew. That's the best possible addition, a lot of organic matter with great water retemption and deseases-weed free as well.

My patch is 25 X 55 more or less. I am building the first one and do not have edges defined absolutely. This year we added 12 cu. yds. of Canadian Peat and 5 cu. ft. of mushroom waste. Under all this we have three pick up truck loads of horse manure below the till debth. The new leaf crop goes on top with winter rye topping all. Like some of you...all of a sudden there was winter. I may or may not get the ultimate plan finished this fall. With all of this I add some fertilizer, Ironite and lime to work with my soil test. Finish touches get added in the spring. Shooting for 6.8 PH and 15-20% humus. That sucker will grow in good soil next year. :}

I wouldn't matter to put a sleeping bag on that hollow. where in PA is Mountoursville? I've been living one summer in Titusville, PA.

Don Titusville is about two to two hours West of Montoursville. Montoursville is just East of Williamsport, Pa. home of Little League Baseball and one not so famous pumpkin grower. :)
