Is genetics the only factor that contributes to how orange a pumpkin gets, or are there others factors such as soil composition, fertilizer, shading, age and maybe climate?

I believe it is purely genetics, you can cross a pale pumpkin with an orange pumpkin and the off spring will be a little oranger. I think Orange is a recessive gene, like white seeds, I have found that white seeds seem to throw oranger pumpkins, but that may be because I only try to grow white seeds? Any other growers feel free to give your input here.

Can't get much oranger than some of Fred Calai's best!(or Kirk Mombert's), and if my memory serves me right,(like the 846), these are mostly tan seeds! 9Shading can have some effect on your outcome.)
ORANGE IS GOOD! my 2, kilr
