ok ... chirs didn't do the carving... but it was his pumpkin. The Boeing scuba club did the carving... and the co-ordinating with gueniss world record people. I emailed the guy and asked for pictures.... he was leaving for hawaii for 2-3 weeks, said he would get me some after he got back. with links to their web site. Mike... i say go for the record... it would give the boeing guys something to shoot for next year... there are certain rules... not sure what they all are. ... i know there can be no hole before you start and it has to be 15 ( or was it 25) feet underwater before you start... so basically the problem is how to get you pumpkin there and down to the bottom.... then the carving is the easy part... gordon

Ya I figured going down was the trick! Im sure a 300# pumpkin is very bouyant. One of my best friends owns an underwater construction company and I dive with him. Im sure he has a way to pull it down for me. I just may go after that. I still have a 350 lber I could use. BRRRR im sure the water is really cold now. If you get anymore details let me know. There is a local quarry I dive in but the deepest spot is like 23 ft if you put your head in a hole. So I hope 15 ft is the rule. Mike

Wow a whole new idea is created! Depth is a record to! How deep will the walls of a pumpkin hold up to till it implodes! Yikes!

I guess that would depend on th ethickness of the pumpkin.... Wow, I guess that is an Idea. I will toss the idea around. If I knew how to make it official I just might consider it this year yet. Anyhow, sounds fun!

One slight correction, the pumpkin was 306 pounds. Maybe 305 as they snapped the stem off immediately after loading it on their truck. I didn't have a no handle label on it. Weighed in at Hunter Farm in Union Washington. Thanks Gordon for putting me in contact with these guys. It's great to have a part in setting a record. They'll be looking to raise the bar next year so I'll need to grow bigger pumpkins for them. I'm looking forward to seeing the pics myself. By the way the genetics on the pumpkin were 940 Mombert 98 X 764 Mombert 00 and they did save me some seeds.
