I tried something that worked great this year. Per quart of water, use 1 tablespoon baking soda, and 8 to 12 drops of liquid soap. I love this because it's so safe to use and it's so cheap. I don't like toxic stuff because it is bad for us too. Jim

Jim-
baking soda .... interesting... is that a Jerry Baker
tonic ?
did you use that recipe as a preventative (through out
the season or later in the season) or as a "cure" after the first signs of powedery mildew showed up ?

Actually, I used this recipe once I began having PM. It is good for a preventative too though. You have to apply once per week or two for best results. From my understanding, the soap is what makes the baking soda stick to the plant. The baking soda is supposed to create a PH level that doesn't allow the PM to grow. I was truly impressed with my results. It allowed me to grow my pumpkin out to full maturity and keep the plant alive. Jim

the mixture I gave was for one quart of water, so I guess you can figure out the ratio for one gallon. The type of soap isn't important, I think I used a liquid soap like dawn or anything for washing dishes. Jim

Jim, do you just spray until the plant is covered or do you use the whole quart per plant?....Tom

just spray until the whole plant is covered, so I just usually used around 4 to 8 quarts, some of my best success was by splashing my plant with this mixture out of a bucket, I also sprayed to get the undersides too. Jim

I take notice heavyhitter and Jim.
I am from the middle west of Spain, Cáceres is my nearest town, but I live in my wineyard, lost in the countryside.
