I decided to plant winter rye as a cover crop this year and was wondering if it's good to put straw down after planting it?

I wouldn't, unless you're planting on a hill, where seed may wash away! This stuff should stay green all winter! Warning! The deer may show up!

I really wouldn't care to see a deer a munching out. It's my neighboring cows across the fence that I would worry about. I can imagine seeing them with big eyes.. a drooling and licking thier lips already..
Thanks Kilr

I started rye in mid August. A doe and two spotted fawns showed up. Not to worry. Fun sharing at that point.
