There's alot of posts lately from people requesting seeds that will produce orange pumpkins. I have tried in vain for the past four years to grow an orange pumpkin, with seeds that came from orange pumpkins, and / or had orange genetics.

Question: Do you think geographic location and soil quality, or soil type affect the ability of "orange pumpkin producing seeds" to produce orange pumpkins?

I am curious about this too!! I haven't yet tried to produce my first pumpkin, but I notice a WISE variety of colors and textures in the photos....I figured it may be genetic, but am interested in any further info.

I'm thinking the orange gene is recessive and it depends on whaqt it's crossed with as to wether or not it shows up in the next generation. An example would be my little 410 Gadberry from 2000 very orange, yet when I crossed it with a cream colored pumpkin (Holland 1026, 2000) sure enough my 644 Gadberry from 2001 was bigger yet noticably paler.... I grew the 644 this year and crossed it with the 1230 Daletas it produced my 651 Gadberry, and was still orange, but noticably pale, and had taken on the tall and wide caracteristics of the 1026 Holland from 2001. I plan on crossing my 596 Gadberry that came from the 1230 Daletas X 644 Gadberry back into my 651 Gadberry to see if the recessive orange comes back the following season (2004). Confused yet? I am.....
