I've just finished loading my first effort at growing a giant.I'm taking it to a GPC weigh off site tomorrow and hoping it comes in at 300#.My problem is that I cut the main vine really close to the fruit, less than an inch, and a buddy just told me the stem has to be an inch long. The fruit is solid as Gibralter right around and I'm praying I won't be disqualified for to short a stem!!!!!(Thats to much for any guy to bear!!!!!!!)

You are fine, that rule only applies to fruit having to much stem attached.

The rules are the vine must be cut within 1 inch of the stem not the stem 1 inch from the pumpkin.

I am relieved also. Thanks for asking the question ManUMan, and of course thanks for the answers!!! I was being careful and left a foot of vine on each side. Thought I would trim it tomorrow. But while loading, I broke one side right at the stem. I was a little stressed.
Hey, Brian C., you haven't hit the road yet? Are you still coming to Utah? Just getting a very early start in the morning? Hope to see you there! Brent W.
