Well for the vast amount of us the time of fruition has come about. I being a newbie to this game have been walking around for days with goose bumbs just counting the minutes till I sever the vine to my first beast. What a wonderfull feeling it is to just sit on the outskirts of my patch and say wow, I grew that! It's just kinda cool. I have dedicated my patch and pumpkin to my late Grandfather who owned the property my patch is within. When he was alive he was a great gardner, and I feel that one reason my pumpkin has made it to today was because of a little divine intervention. The other reason is all the cool people who visit this site and make it what it is today. We all live in different parts of the country (and world) but it seems as though we are all just next door. In todays messed up world it's still nice to see that people can come together with a common interest. Well as I sit here it is 10:57 Thursday morning and I just want to wish everyone good luck this weekend where ever your weigh-off is. I'll probably see a bunch of ya at the Topsfield Fair. I will be helping with the unloading of the great giants starting Friday evening, so till then good luck!!

5150, i feel with you, though it is some what different for me. my giant is only 190 lbs, but i have babied, cared for, gone out at midnight to check on, fertilized, weeded, gotten up at 5 in the morning to check again, covered, warmed, searched the internet for answers, asked the many great growers here for advice, even chatted (i never, ever chat) looking for advice, answers, comraderie. i have "virtually" met people from England, Australia, Canada, and all parts of the USA.
I can't go to Topsfield, but, Floh and I can go to Ludwigsburg. Our place in this great world of growers to enjoy the fruits of our labor, regardless of how small they may be this year. we are always dreaming of next year, I've made contacts to get cow manure, built a green house, asked how to get better seeds, visited this site, every day, I mean every day for the last 6 months, I did not miss one.
I envy you with the awesome job of helping to download those beats to the scales. I really wish I could be there! In spirit I am, just like all of the growers that visit this site from distant lands.
Thank you for giving me and many others such a wonderful feeling. I am sure your father would be proud.
best wishes, owen

I agree with you. Without this site I would not have the seeds and the information that I do now. Thanks to everyone who makes this site great. And an extra thankyou to Len who sent me my first seeds. Suzy

John: in the past we had been doing it from 6:00-9:00 but in reality no one would show-up around 9:00 so we'd be gone at 8:30 Hugh tells me this year 4:30-7:30

5150, Your post nails it on the head. The people here are just so nice, it's a nice break from the daily grind to sit down at the 'puter and see what's cooking in the world of big pumpkins.
