Size is relative and a 600 pound pumpkin is big in the town I live in. News travels fast in a small town like mine so now I'm getting visitors to see my pumpkin. Of course nothing makes me happier than showing off my pumpkin to anyone who takes the time to stop by to see it. Yesterday there was a knock at the door and it was a woman I didn't know with a van parked on the street. She said she had a van full of mentally handicapped people and they would like to see the big pumpkin. Man was that fun....wish I had taken some pictures. The cub scouts are coming over this evening.

All this makes all the late season worrying and nightmares a lot easier to take:)

svrichb, You're a good man. I hope you grow many, many more big ones and get to show them off every year.

Isn't it great. That's what it's all about. Big pumpkins just seem to brighten up peoples' days. My 9 yr old son's pumpkin is only about 350 lbs, Not as big as in the past, and he is totally pumped about what he grew. He can't wait to show it off. Beat his old dad, none for me this year, and he's really rubbing it in. I just love it.

There is something about Giant Pumpkins that carries away our imagination......away from the strife of our nation, away from the strife of family "challenges". It seems to propel us into the world of "make believe"! I believe that Giant Pumpkin Growing is healthy for the mind. It helps fight off winter depression by stimulating us to plan for next year. First to improve our soil in the fall. Then it makes us decide which seeds do we want to get for next spring as we spend hours going over the AGGC charts. It keeps the mind young and builds friendships. Pumpkin people are really nice people!

Let's hear it for making Giant Pumpkin Growing our new National Pastime!!
