I have a couple questions. My pumpkin is 81 days old now, still barely growing, I'm going to give it an olive oil bath to help the orange color come out. Is it ok to give the pumpkin full sun in 85 degree weather at the end of it's life, or will this make it lose weight? Second, what is the average days a pumpkin will grow in southern california? I'm not sure if this 81 days is longer than usual or naormal. Thanksm Jim

Let's just say that you are probably on "borrowed time"!

Generally, your plant will stop growth around day 150 from when it germinated. If you don't cut into (carve), it'll probably make it 2-4 weeks after that if weather isn't to hot. Steve

Hey thanks for answering my second question. How about the first question on the sun? That would be nice to know. Thanks, Jim

Jim. I have 5 of my pumpkins shaded. I don't want to take any chances. it was 104 in Sacramento today.
