hello, what is the best way to load a pumpkin if your going to travel about 350 miles to a weigh off site? would you put couch cushion under the pumpkin? would you put couch cushions under the pallet on your truck, then put cushions between your pumpkin and the pallet as well?

Yo Brat,
I put the pumpkin on a thin sheet of foam to cushion it from the pallet and pack it around the sides with anything that is soft..like blankets, pillows, cushions etc. Done a few 500 mile round trips like this and never lost one yet....Tell a lie.....one did go down on the way back from a weigh-off...after people cut a hole in it to get some of the seeds out...oozed goup...ooooooooooooh that smell.

I put it on a pallet, which was covered with styrofoam insulation and then on a foam pad. Went 300 miles to the weighoff and then back again last year without any difficulties. Probably overkill but it was my first 800 pounder, wasn't about to take any chances. After the weighoff I hauled it around on a trailer without the foam to schools and whatnot for about 150 miles and still had no problems.

PumpkinBrat,
If you get lots of foam between the pallet and the fruit, I don't think you will need anything under the pallet. I've never used couch cushions, but they should work out okay. I go to the carpet shops and pick up pieces of foam padding. I stack several together to make a 5 inch cushion and that's worked out fine for me, best of luck!...Joe P.
