Yes, thats right, my fruit on the 712 also bit the dust today. I found soft spots on the top ribs on the left side of the fruit....boy was i mad! cant a guy get a break...that is my 6th fruit this year that split....when i opend up the fruit, it was farily rotten inside and a bit soupy...a dill ring ran across the bottom of the fruit parallel with the stem and opened up underneath the fruit into the cavity.
Final numbers of Hoser--- 147.5-100.5-93.5 = 341.5 OTT est 797 Lbs. I cut hoser into pieces...the fruit was not yet rotted enough yet to not be able to handle the rotted parts....i weighed the pieces and they added up too...drum roll please........830 UNOFFICIALLY WEIGHED POUNDS!! figures, i hit 800 and cant keep the fruit solid....i think there is a conspiracy going on here in WI....5 fruit have gone down these last two weeks here in WI....3 over 800, 1 over 700 and the other over 650.
there was 9-11 inch thick shoulder walls and a consistant 5-8 inches thick everywhere else, besides the blossom end and the 4 inches of wall where the split was....only fault of fruit on the inside was that dill ring on the bottom....very solid fruit.
pics to come in diary soon.... case

thanks guys...your great! i have never lost a big one like this, and i havent had to many big ones...jsut the 762 but it made it to the weighoff. Its very horrible to lose one at this stage of the season, it really sucks! showing up with nothing at nothing at the weighoff is really a sinking sad feeling when you know it the fruit would have been great (I HAD 2nd place SECURED!! AHH!!). Its like losing a loved one....
when i was slicing open my 830, those mosquitoes were really bothering me, because of the situation, i had a few choices words and some erratic motions to kill them little *&*(&(#!! i wasnt in the mood, i was very upset....
Thanks to you all, may the rest of you have my luck that is left and have a better outcome!

Sorry to hear about your loss, Case. I think we all knew and heard stories of "the one that got away", when we first got into this, and were "all too naive" to believe that it would ever happen to us. But it did and does, and will. After all, we're all learning a valuable lesson about life. Here's to the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat! All we can hope for is a little more of the first, and a lot less of the latter!

'Tis a year for smaller pumpkins, Smitty. Sorry to hear of the loss, Case...you gave it your best and can be proud of the size it reached. Only wish mine could reach half that size.
