Went out to check on little Ozzie today (80lbs max). Hasn't grown very mush in quite a while but has been hanging in there. This morning the stem was very soft and wet in several places. I made the decision to cut it off the vine and bring it into the garage where it will be dry. Figured it would have a better chance out of the weather.
Well the soft stem is the least of my problems. When I lifted the pumpkin, I found a 3inch round hole on the bottom. It's about 1/2" deep into the pumpkin. It doesn't seem to be rotting....yet. I know it's my own fault. 1st-I did'nt put anything under the pumpkin. 2nd - there was a vine growing under the pumpkin - this is where the hole occured.
Can it be saved. I cleaned and dried the area and treated with a fungicidal powder. Can I fill the hole it with silicone or similar product. Or is there no way to save it.
I hope you guys can help.
Thanks all the advice.

Okay so I guess no one had the heart to tell me that it's all over for Ozzie. More soft spots on the bottom today. I know 80lbs is a peanut compared to the other giants but it was the biggest thing I ever grew and I was looking forward to putting it out on the lawn for halloween. Got a smaller one on the vine and I have my fingers crossed at least I'll have something to show for my efforts.

Steve, In your first post you said mush instead of much. If you have soft spots, It's turning to mush. Get it in your compost pile before it is too late. I know how you feel. My first season ended the same way. Sorry. Learn from this year. Put something under your fruit.

Thanks Pappy,
I think the mush vs much was sort of a forshadowing typo. Although you'd be hard pressed to find any of my posts without a typo. Looks good till I post it.
Like I said I still have the smaller pumpkin on the vine. With something underneath it and good vine position. Next year.... Who has some good seeds?
