It is now almost the beginning of fall and I am preparing the patch for next year. My question is, can I put grass clippings in the patch even though I fertilize and use weed contral on the grass all year round?. Would that hurt the pumpkin plants for next year? I use all of the steps that the Scott's Fertilizer Company recommends. Thanks

Good question, Ray! Some will say that the broad leaf killers in the weed 'n feed will remain over the winter. Personally, I would compost the grass. When the piles heat up, it will break down any residue.

Sure you can. I have my own lawn mowing business, I bring some grass home in the spring and the summer and put it on my patch. In the fall, I bring all the grass and leaves home that i can. In the fall when i'm down with tilling in all the leaves and grass, I use what ever Weed n' Feed i have left over from the season. This is high in nitrogen and it helps break down the leaves in my soil. In the Spring, I'll put on more leaves that I have in a big pile. The last two years i have put left over Weed n' Feed on in the Spring and have never had a problem with my pumpkins growing. This year i have two pumpkins over 700lbs and one of them should hit 800lbs by October.

It must be nice to have some grass clippings. My yard is soooo dry that when you walk on the lawn you can see the dust rise from it. Only 1.2 inches of rain since.....,well I can't really remember, been tooo long since I have seen a black cloud overhead....Tom

Watered them as much as I could. But the cracks in the yard make the Grand Canyon look puny!... Tom
