That was the headline of today's city page in our local newspaper with a complete write-up and photo of my 15 month old being dwarfed by "Wilbur".
Why am I letting everyone know this, well when the paper wanted to do a story on my pumpkin seeing as I'm the only one around growing giant pumpkins in this part of Saskatchewan I thought hey that would be fun, and the grandparents would get a kick out of it.
BIG mistake...
I average now about 2 or 3 people every other day wanting to see the pumpkin from word of mouth, (neighbours and friends) but since this, today alone it has been like 20 people and more driving by the house. Funny thing my address wasn't included, (good old phone book) which brings me to the other point. We probably got 10 or so calls from people wanting to come see the pumpkin and what a bunch of stupid questions, sure they never grew one and it is fascinating but now, not only am I stressed about him making it another couple weeks but I'm affraid some punk a#$ youths will find out were he is and well you know the rest. Good thing I got a couple dogs, but they sleep in the house at night and I don't think they are to impressed with being outside tonight and playing watch dog to an over grown gourd.
Well a piece of advice keep yer foot in yer mouth and don't let the media take a photo op till after weigh-off...

Yah, Ernie, shhhhhhh........ keep it quiet except for a few trustworthy friends, and by all means don't let the media get hold of it until after. Fortunately I live out in the rural area where visitors and the curious would have a hard time finding my place unless they were given a map. Looking forward to seeing Wilbur alongside Herc.

Hey Ernie, hopefully no one will get one of those idiot urges. Good idea to leave the dogs outside. You should start up some sort of neighborhood watch program. Good luck, I wanna see that biggie in Smoky Lake.

Just a quick update on wilbour, He taped out today at 133" circ. and an ott of 302" but he has cantalouped quite a bit and my gut tells me he will way heavy and is probably sitting around 597 - 605 lbs.
I have heard of another pumpkin with very simular measurements (133 - 83 - 85) weighing in at 643lbs. which is strange as Wilbour measures 133 - 83.5 - 85.5...
Here's hoping....
