A couple of new terms to add to your vocabulary.

Steltsian - great. extremely large and heavy. (ie. My goal this year is to grow a pumpkin to steltsian proportions.)

Nesbitt - displaying hardcore growing techniques. (ie. Did you see that enclosure Ken D is putting up over his entire plant? I think he's gone nesbitt)

Funny....my wife had another term for it!

Just wait until you see it with the plastic on!

I think you should build one over the Kuhn plant too;) Or better yet, just put a Biosphere over the whole back yard!

You know I'm just kidding you Ken. I can't wait to see how that thing turns out and how the pumpkin does inside of it. Now if you start building a 20,000 gallon water tank for next year then you have officially gone nesbitt.

Some more to add to the encyclopedia:
flatviner - not to mistake it for all sorts of flatliners but having similar effects on growers
pollination protector - fancy constructions to keep lucky females alive until self-termination
germinator - installations used by growers for high-end germination of seeds which will later on rot in the pot
SVB - would be on the FBI most wanted list if they´ll ever get involved into AG growing
Chinese - AG grower building a wall around his pumpkins big enough to order a satellite view of his patch

How about "Brent Ritchey"? (A little "twist" on someone that is not real happy about what they're paying for their apartment?) Don't worry, the "think tanks" out there will come up with more! See what you started SV?

If you have a complaint, don't Call I! (Calai!)

Ken- It's good to see you have gone Nesbitt. Keep that pumpkin growing.

By the way....the water tank is only 15,000 gallons, not 20,000....but your giving me ideas for next spring. LOL! Alan

The cold front was delayed so I didn't put the plastic up last night. The low temp was 66! Tonight is supposed to be in the 40's so I will get a chance to try it out.

I don't know if this applies exactly, but I find myself refering to the current teenage style of having pants hanging way down on the butt as "blossom end split."

How about - "HH Syndrome" A psychological condition characterized by the defiant purchasing of costly farming equiptment, and subsequently denying ownership thereof.

Or - "Neophite Tolerance Level", or "NTL" As in, "Many members of BP demonstrate very high NTL." The ability of experienced pumpkin growers to answer the very same questions by new pumpkin growers over, and over, and over, and over again without the use of a single obscenity.

"Measuring Reference Beverage Container" or "MRBC" - A beverage container used solely for the purpose of size reference in the photographing of vegetables. An MRBC is only official if freshly emptied. Much controversy exists among the experts as to the allowable types of MRBC, but it is commonly agreed that a freshly drained, malt beverage container is optimal.

Patience,

I agree. The only official MRBC is a freshly drained malt beverage container. Though I've used a pack of cigarettes in a pinch for a quick pic I now realize it was not an "official" photo:)

what about in my case? whos gonna buy me the malt beverage?

Well, of course, since pumpkin growers are extremely law abiding, you would have to enlist the assistance of a proxy-malt beverage drainer. This person would, of course, have to be a pumpkin grower of good reputation, and appreciation for the technicalities of malt beverage consumption. Perhaps this site could supply a list of qualified malt-beverage drainers to be appointed in such cases. Volunteers?
