I was wondering what Tempature the bigger pumpkins grow in the best. Also when it gets later in the Season like it is now and some growers talk about the cool spells they are having makes there pumpkins slow down in growing then what is that temp, how cool day and night? During the heat of the Summer here we have days over 100 and nights up in the 70s. Now during the days here it is about 90 and nights are in the mid to upper 60s. Is that about the same temps you growers have in the North during you warmer times of the year when you get the better growth? Thomas Hathorn Southwest Oklahoma

Last year in the first week of August, Temps reached into the low 90's during the day and low 70's at night with high humidity. During that week, I averaged 26.4 lbs per day. The highest one week gain I have experienced. The previous and following weeks were not nearly as warm, and I only recorded growth in the low 20's (lbs/day). Based on my observations, fruit in my patch do the best when temps are in the hi 80's, low 90's with high humidity.

Hi Thomas, The weather you are having now sounds similar to the best weather we get in July. To get a good weight gain now I need to have a sunny day (85 under polythene)followed by a cloudy night(55)

I would have to agree with joe the only bad thing about high tems is the the plant seams to shut down after having many days of such heat instead of get a pumpkin that grows 65-75 days you get a pumpkin which will only grow 45-55 days. Or would you see alot more monsters grown in the south or atleast in hotter climates. With heat and humidiy comes insects in greater number and deases. So keep spraying thomas. best of luck mark
