I have a botany book that states that pumpkin roots can go as deep as 6 feet with a spread of 5-17.5 feet!!! (Nebraska soil) A lot will depend on soil type. degreee of compaction, water supply, organic matter, etc. Incidently, alfalfa roots can go as deep as 20 feet!!
