One of my pumpkins rotted. It was on a main and I pulled the vine up today and found that it was like pulling up string. It was very wet and stringy. Can anyone tell me what this is and how to prevent it next year. Thanks.

Was it totoly yellow ray,the vines(discolored).Also was it soft or hard to the touch.John

The color was a yellowish red. They were the vines that were buried.

Ray the reason i ask is i pulled a few up the other day and mine were spongey,not bad but rubbery and yellow from alot of water buryied directly ontop of soaker hoses, in my case id say excess water.John
