We all enjoyed the friendly, early season competition between the Georgia Boy's (Pappy, Jeff) and though no one has noticed there is a race coming down to the wire in Virginia. We are not competing for World Records down here but there is at least two fellas that I know who are approaching the Virginia State Fair record (586 lbs, not the actual State record) and it's all unfolding before your very eyes in the Growers Diaries. Should make for an interesting weighoff on Sept 28th. Now excuse me, I gotta go get a pick axe from the hardware store and catch a bus to Herndon;)

Rich, I've been impressed with all the biguns' being grown out there. It's really harder to keep up with 50 large fruit than just two early growers like me and Jeff. I read as many diary posts as I can, and am following yours and Bruisers faithfully. Believe me, I have noticed and I wish you both the best of luck!!!!! The same goes for everyone else that is keeping a diary here. I am learning more and more each day from all of you! Thanks a million!!!

Well if your wishin' luck wish me a little extra because right now he's got me by a few pounds;)
I was also wondering if any one else out there is planning on entering at the Virginia State Fair. Sure would like the opportunity to meet some more of the BP crowd. I know we have a few Virginia and Maryland growers out there......somewhere......

lobsta...how much potash? My pumpkins just set fruit and started growing the first week of August. I have a bag of 0 0 60 and am wondering just how much potash I dare use. I doubt if any of my pumpkins weigh over 60 pounds. *sigh* and how about the wood charcoal....you mean wood ashes and pieces of charred wood???? Where do I put the potash? around the main stump or everywhere....dissolve it first in hot water...and then add cold? ...and what ratio would you use on a young smallish pumpkin? Whew....what a lot of questions I have asked...but inquiring minds need to know....(:

I probably have 100 pounds on Bruiser...that's my weight, not my pumpkins:)
Our weighoff is Sept. 28th so it will be a little entertainment before the BIG weekend. Last year there was 19 entries but I'm expecting more this year. There will be some good competition from others who do not participate on this site I'm sure. I'll make sure to get pics.
kilr, you have to pull for me...I may be the only OVGPG member there:)

Sept. 28th is also weigh-off day for my cub scout/parent project in which 35 growers grew my 440# seed from last year. Only problem is the best pumpkin I have growing is on this plant! Good luck to all at ALL weigh-offs!

svrichb....talk it up big guy. You've only got 23 days until I put you in your place at the scales!! And no trying to weasle out of it by claiming a rib split or some other nonsense. We'll settle this once & for all, and then you can sit back an prepare to be taunted throughout 2003!!
Actually, my biggest fear is that someone else will show up with 700-800 lbs and say, "Hey thanks Bruiser, I grew this on your 636 Saylor..."------ Noooooooooo!!!
Good luck Brent, I am really looking foreward to seeing you (and your pumpkin) at the scales. It should be a great time for all!!

I see from you diary you are already talking about your pumpkin going "light". The 600 Derosiers was 9% heavy so don't try to kid me I know that thing is a rock. I'm not going to coast into our weighoff....it's 600 or bust. I think my pumpkin got one last growth spurt in it and I'm going to push it hard. I'll get some measurements and pics this weekend so you know what you're chasing:) Loser buys the corn dogs and elephant ears!
