This has been a bad year for my pumpkins. With the fairs only a few weeks away my pumpkin is only a couple of hundred pounds due to SVB's and white flies.
Should I go to the Durham fair with a small fruit or just show my face.
Just wondering on opinions?

The more pumpkins the bigger the event. The bigger the event the more people are drawn to it. The more people are drawn to it the bigger the event. The bigger the event the more prizes. The more prizes the bigger the event. Soon, if you do it right, you'll have a bigger event, bigger prizes, and more prizes....and you will be considered a god amongst normal men, the girls will swarm to you as if you had a 65 Corvette, and you'll never have to stand in line for anything ever again. At least thats what I was told......G

I will be there no matter what it's just whether its worth the effort to bring the fruit. I am lazy at times.

The positive attidudes are great...

G is right all the way.....chicks dig big pumpkins....now if they would just dig the 20 year old grower, I would be all set. I took a 202 lber to contest. Got a hug from miss Indiana...what could be better than that!!!!!!!

I always thought the saying was "chicks dig scars", DAMN !! & I've spent all my life getting good & scarred up...
And by the way, take the pumpkin & be proud of it no matter how big it is.............Paul

Gotta side with G on this one, think he summed it up best.
You meet the nicest people at the weigh-offs !

All my adult life i've heard that size doesn't matter.........I guess when it comes to growing BIG pumpkins.....SIZE DOES MATTER and like John said be proud of what you have.

Yo Dave,
I only have a small one this year..but its gonna go the weigh-offs......gives the others a chance this year and shows that the best of us have bad years as well.

I had the same thoughts last year when I lost any chance for real big one by the end of july and had just one, late, open pollinated thing left at weighoff time. It was the poster boy for a neglected pumpkin but I decided to take it anyway and I was real happy that I did. Only 247 pounds but it was a great experience being in my first weighoff. On the plus side...take a 200 pound pumpkin is pretty easy ....just need 1 or 2 friends and you can put it in a car (no pallet necessary) :)

Last yr was my first ever growing pumpkins. I grew a 139.8 big max pumpkin. I was DAMN proud to take it to the weighoff. It was one of the smallest there, but i stood proud by it!!! Be proud of whatever you grow! A 200lb pumpkin is huge to the normal everyday person. It is stil a HUGE accomplishment! Show it off! My 2 cents, Mike
