Do you save seeds from pumpkins that hadn´t been successful for you? wes@calif told me about a friends Deary pumpkin that is off the vine due to a stem split like I have - must be genetical, like some other defects the plant had in the past. I wonder if you´ll run into the same trouble next season taking these "flat-viners", "stem-splitters" or whatever into your seed collection.

Sure that's possible, however it's funny how people tend to overlook things like that when the pumpkin is over 1000 lbs. I don't think John Girgus had any trouble giving away seed from his 1107 (blossom end split). I think no matter what, be it dill rings to "flat-viners", people will want the seed if it grows a biggie.
