I know I'll never get someone to 'fess up to a possible world record pumpkin they may have but how about some of those state records? I'm not going to threaten the VA record but how about the CT boys? I know there are probably some others out there.

i have the Knopp, Germany record in my garden right now. okay so i am the only person in Knopp growing an AG, gotta start somewhere! BTW Knopp only has about 1000 residents.

Enough fun, i like the idea svrichb, seems to me that some people been awefully quite out there, don't wanna jinx em, just cheer them on!

I've noticed that too. I'm sure there are some big'uns out there that guys are tight lipped about. I respect that, although, it would be nice to follow along with their progress. Should be exciting in October!

LOL!!!

Yeah guys, you know that they are out there.
I think that is part of the fun though.... have to wait and see what shows up at the weigh-offs come October.

I am guessing that I'll see a couple of 1200 pounders here at the northwest events. Just have to wait a month to do it. Enough to drive a guy crazy waitin' like this.

Ben - yeah I'm torn on the decision.
I'd like to go to both, but cloning isn't an option at this stage in the game. Both are gonna have really big pumpkins.

I'm leaning toward Sauvie's Island since that is going to be "the official" GPC weigh-off site.
If there is going to be a new world champion out of the Northwest I'm thinking they will be there.
1300 pounds of pkin - now thats gonna be a GIANT!

Floh- give us an update via your diary.(if you can) I see your last entry on the Eisenhauer was on the 10th & @ 221 OTT.
Is it still getting bigger?
Just wondering due to all that rain and crazy wetter you were having.

Ceis,
You never know what might show up at Canby. Just because it isn't GPC, doesn't mean the largest pumpkin isn't going to be sitting on the Hoffmans Scale. 416 total inches isn't so bad, nor is 1167, 1028. I know those growers, the rest of the growers from the PGVG and many more that are not members will be showing at Canby in support of The Hoffmans who have sponsered pumpkin growers over 30,000 dollars and only asked for 5 pumpkins a year to stay as display. All are invited for a family oriented event at the Dairy Garden.

Good points made above and I was actually going to post a related question on the weigh-offs board. There is no doubt in my mind that there will big pumpkins at _both_ events.

Here is the tricky question - Why the same day, same weekend? This just splits the field and I would assume, dilute the competition.

From what I can gather Canby has been the 'traditional' Oregon weigh-off site.

This seems political, are there some rifts between growers here in the NW?
I have never been to a weigh-off so this is all new to me.

Hey Brent Nobody's answering the question! I can't find the NJ record but the largest Pumpkin I found was out of wrightstown at 816 lb's that's the one I'm after...about 815 and 3/4 light right now but three weeks of those 45 lb days and I'll be right with em!!!! Never Surrender! LOL Chuck

Giant Veggies

Sask, Canada

K guys I'm posting a copy here from my diary (pic is there)

Here's my dilema, I'm sitting on a pumpkin that is growing in my books as a first year grower excellent. Has been on average putting on 2.5" circ. daily and averages 19lbs per day. Today he is at day 41 post pollination and has a circ. of 109".

Some stats- Growing location average days from pollination to harvest 75days.
- Provincial record 693.5lbs
- inches remaining to obtain 700lbs and record 38"
- current daily growth 2.5" circ.
- daily average circ. needed to obtain 38" 1.03" per day
- day 63 hits 147.5" at current growth rate and factoring in a drop to one inch per day at day 50

My problem is the pumpkin around his blossom end and all the minor cracking and ozzing. his ribs have just begun to start filling out and he is still quite yellow, should I do something to slow him down or just cross my fingers.

Thanks
TTYL
Ernie

Ernie, grow it. Just hang on. I would not change anything. Just keeps the minor cracks treated with a fungicide and keep it dry. Good luck!

Yeah, the CT record is 776.5 out of Tolland.

Chuck - I think your right I see 816.5 as the state record for NJ.
