I buried the vines on the plant, just like the book said. The squash borers were very happy about this,as they could go about thier dirty business without me detecting thier frass-holes.One lesson I learned this year was....If you bury the vines..DON'T bury them where the leaf comes out of the vine, bury them in between the leaf junctures. The borers had a field day with my vine and ruined my year. How the little bastards crawled all the way from Hell'I'll never know but I'm sure that's where they came from.o

Did you open up any of the vines and actually see them?

Yes.Wherever I saw a leaf that was turning yellow, brown,or black I found the dirty maggot bastards up to no good,I've killed at least 50 this week alone.Because we had such a hot spell over the last 6 weeks,I've cut back on the applications of Sevin. One of the filthy, dirty, sleasy, scummy, rotten, no-good, S.O.B.'s has gone into the STEM of my biggest pumkin and he's gone into the underside of the stem.I blasted malathion up into the stem and I don't know if I got him or not, dirty stinker, but I can't physically get to him,the sneaky, ruthless whore-master.

Whoa,

Watch that language! You have now arrived at the stage that you will refrain from using Sevin, and next year will start using a systemic insecticide such as Scimitar. If you don't, you will build up a nice sized "colony" of SVB's, and instead of 50, may have 5000! Life's too short, dude!(Been dere, done that!)

LOL - That was great. I know every single word comes to my mind when I seen them little #$%^#, @#$%-&*$%^, %^&*$#%@,
$%^&*# SVB's. I thought SVB's were done this year and I seen one land on a leaf as I was spraying fungacide this week. I didn't even think right when I counted the black dots and blasted the little bastard with fungacide. The I had about 15 minutes trying to find him with no prevail. I felt your emotion and pain bobbybou.
