A bear has apparently been spotted near my pumpkin patch (not by me). I have no idea what kind it was, but the source was pretty reliable. Has anyone had any problems with bears and pumpkins? thanks --Bruiser

Yes they eat them! Kind of like a deer in that they like to eat the interior. But unlike a deer that more often than not will kick a pumpkin open to eat the interior(mainly the seeds), a bear will be a little more messy.

I had a bear snack on one that was in my compost pile one Fall. Don't know if it was a black bear or a grizzly. What kinds of bears do you have down there in VA? V.

Oh great! I was affraid of that! I have checked around and it was likely a black bear, which are common in Virginia although I have never seen one. Perhaps I'll add another high-voltage wire about waist high. Thanks for the responses. --Bruiser

I always thought that the worst critter would be the "punk kid next door" but I think you have me beat on that one.

A bear in Herndon, VA? Are you sure it wasn't Steve Case (of AOL) scouting out a hiding place?
