two options........one, slice the vine with the grain using a razor blad and remove the borer......or two......inject nematodes or an insecticide into the vine to kill the grub......both will work.....now get out there!!

There is hope.I've been pretty lucky with injections of a Diazinon/malathion mix injected into the vine and sometimes blasting the mix into the frass-hole with a regular pump sprayer. That may take care of the S.O.B..Then there is the rot to contend with.I'm currently working on that problem and will let all know how my experiment works.

I would tell him to just cut the pumpkin off, and I suggest that for you as well... Cause I know he has a friend next door that would REALLY like to win this year! So you just let him know that throwing in the towel is a good idea... Signed.... Hoping in Newmarket.....Lates...

i've used a small pointed stick in the past to ease out the borer they usually aint too far from the site of the damage.
