About a month before I planted my plants I used weed killer to kill and remove all the weed growth in my patches. That worked fine but I have a feeling that it has caused more abortion and odd shaped pumpkins. Also I think it may have slowed down the growth of the pumpkins. Has any one else have this problem. === Water

What kind of weed killer are we talking here. I use round-up on my jack-o-lantern patches. No problems with growth, funny shaped fruit. The County guys were mowing the other day and were joking about them crossing the highway soon.

Hey Water, If you used a systemic weed killer you should have had no problem something like round up. IF you used a sterilizing one like Triox ground would be sterile for up to a year! The in betweeners like Preen would stop new growth but the weeds there would have stayed. None meet your criteria of mutation except a weak triox application. do you remember what ya'll used to clean up the patch.

Roundup is what I used. Guess I will have to look at something else. Thanks water

Round-Up does not stay in the soil! The UV light neutrilizes it in less than a day. It is a "contact" herbivore. There are absolutely no systemic qualities.
I have sprayed an area and within two weeks, new weeds are already breaking ground!
