As I have been learning about AGs on this, and other, sites, I have observed that most of the problems that growers face are minimized in CA. We have a nice long growing season, no really extreme weather (in most areas) no SVBs, no drought (in most areas) - so what's up? Why are most of the heavy hitters elsewhere? Why wasn't the world champion grown in, for instance, Sunnyvale? I will be having a go at it next year, but I wonder why, when we have it so "easy" here, are there not more biggies here locally? Just curious. Patience

Langevins books say it has something to do with sun rays and length of days in the growing season!

Patience====== Giant Pumpkins can be grown in California. When you get the Books (and there is alot of good information in them)there is a few paragraphs of a man from southern ca. growing the largest pumpkin in the world in 1997. The pumpkin weighed 977 pounds. I live in southern Ca. and have been growing for four years. My first punpkin weighed 250, my last one weighed 650 and I am hoping for a larger one this year. Read all the information that you can find. File it in a note book and your head and then use what you feel is best suited for you. ----Water
