Man, what is going on with our weather? Dozens of people died all over the continent due to rain floods that still won´t stop. Looking at my pumpkins today, there was a lightning strike a few feet away from me. Do I need lightning conductors for my plants? I thank god the rain is not that heavy over here, a bit of subtropical climate in Cologne. Burried all my vines, fertilized, try to keep the fruits away from moisture with sand.

Ooooh! I love thunder storms! (Although I am sorry for the tragedies that the current weather has caused.) I have always wished that I lived in a place that got more weather. California is so bland! Patience

I just spent the day holding down my hoop house in the wind. It was very nearly history but just pulled through got quite a lot of leaf damage though. Summer finally arrived 3 weeks ago now its winter already, I have always wished I lived in California where they don't get any weather.

Floh - I was wondering how you and Owen were im Deutschland. Are the umbrellas helping to keep things dry there? Let us know how your Pkins are doing.
Sorry to hear about the Euro-weather, hang on for the ride.

The weather has been strange indeed. A couple of days of heat (80-85 degrees) then nights in the low 50's, now we've got fog in my neck of the woods with temps expected in the mid 60's as highs. My fruit is growing very slow. Coming up on the 30 day mark and will be lucky if the biggest estimates at 85 lbs. Thanks for the weather prediction Alun, but if you don't mind, keep it over in England, Patience, send us some of your sunshine!!!!

Alun, you gotta deal! I've been promising my eldest son for YEARS that we would journey to the old country. Now he is almost 16, and we are still here. If I don't hurry up he's gonna be off to college, and then he'll probably make the trip with some little tart instead of his loving mother! :-) I have to say, I think you've got it made, living there in the home of the finest ale in the world, Rumpole of the Bailey, James Herriot and bangers and mash! My skin is made for the weather there too; I am just begging for some wicked skin cancer in the California sun. Patience

Owen, if I could do it, I would. 100 all day today in my yard. No air conditioner, of course, because builders don't think we need it here! So we just melt. Also, since I promised the kids that we would MAKE ketchup out of our voluminous tomato crop, I was foolish enough to turn the stove on. Big mistake! Ick! What I wouldn't give for even a little fog or rain. Patience

Okay, if I´ll ever leave this country because of the weather, I´ll go to Wisconsin! What´s going on there? Just looked at different WI grower diaries - how many records do they want to break this season? Have no idea how this works - plutonium fertilizer? - lol
