For one of my field pumpkin plants, all new growth has shriveled, no flowers at all, the leaves are drooping in cool mildly sunny weather, and the fruit i set on it is already ripe (i think) its turned orange from the green. My question is should i just cull the fruit and trash the plant now, how long does it take a field pumpkin's seeds to mature?

Sounds like a victim of bacterial wilt, you may get some viable seeds, but doesn't sound like there's much hope for that plant.

too late, i pulled the plant, found 1 SVB in new growth that shrivelled, found another HUGE one in the vine itself, and after trashing the plant, i had left perhaps one inch of vine attached to the stem...and inside i found ANOTHER ONE..i cut off the vine partm and took out the bug..it would have gone in..so that plant is in the garbage, i decided to check the others, and i am now at a total of 11 SVB found..yikes
