Have some interesting results using both methods between July 30 and Aug 6: From 30 to 4, daily gain in circ. was 2.4", from 4 to 6 only 1.6". But OTT from 30 at 175" and today, Aug 6 it´s 211". That´s a steady increase of 5.14" every day. I thought this might give an idea to those who complained about poor results from the circum. method in the last days. The fruits seem to develop individual proportions now.

Interesting post Floh. I too have noticed this. It is almost like a slug fest to see which parameter grows the most. You would think that growth is uniform, but such is not the case. Someone explain to me why that happens!

Maybe it could be done with this formular (looking at the 3 different OTT values): For my pumpkin in 7 days, gain in circ. was +341%, from left to right +348%, from stem to stem +321%. A little wheel style, but still a nice round fruit. So the values are close to it´s actual outlook, representing the individual development.

..and another mistake, correct is: divide your last value with your first value (eg 228/190), factor is 1,2 = 20%.

The OTT method is the most accurate, although by using Circumference you can quickly check your growth progress. If you have a low (blob-shaped) fruit the C method will usually estimate heavier than the OTT and actual weight.

In 3 years and about 50 plants, I am yet to find a fruit that the circumference measurement estimated weight is even close in the end. And yes, I have grown Ohio, Northwest, Atlantic, and Canadian seeds. It just never works out.
Use the OTT for estimating weight, use the circumference for quickly checking growth.
