Here in the Boston area we have been getting a lot of very hot humid weather. The pumkins are getting "White Freckles of Death" and then they stop growing and they get soft so I cull them.So now I'm spraying the plants with a fungicide (Daconil) and giving bleach baths.Has anyone done anything differantly?Any luck?

Mine quit too, despite misting and care to keep it cool. Not sure if the heartbreak of this sport is worth it any more. It ain't dead by any means but it sure isn't growing much either..from 12lbs a day to 7 yesterday to less than that it looks like today. Very humid and 80's last 2 days..cool, almost autumn like the rest of the week. Oh well, guess I got my hopes too high to make 200.

Try putting 2or3 frozen gallon jugs of water around one that you want to protect. Keep about 3 or 4 inches away from the fruit. Should cool 'em down.

I've been describing this same problem, with all side info and what I've been using. Lost all my 10-50#. I gave up on this site as it seemed the people responding just didn't read the whole problem or were clueless. I sympathize with your issue. You wouldn't believe the people that kept giving me detailed info on how to pollinate - how they kept on with losing 50# fruit due to not pollinating was beyond me.

JohnNancy, you might want to take one of your leaves to a local coop and see if they can identify your problem. It's pretty tough to figure out a problem long distance, but the people on this site are anything but clueless. They are very knowledgeable, and if they can't answer your question, you might have to take it someplace where they can get a good look at it. I hope you find out what's wrong and don't give up on this site. The people are great and there is too much information you can lose out on. Good Luck....

JohnNancy,
I responded to your problem back on July 20th. At that time I suggested what I thought your problem may be, and also suggested you look into certain resources to help you diagnose your problem, including a tissue test and contacting your local extension agent. Did you follow any of my suggestions? Are you "clueless" to the fact that there is no magic potion out there that fixes all? Just because you don't have the "stuff" to grow Giant pumpkins, don't blame it on the good people of this site.
